It's been a great summer for some lovely local businesses, beginning with local opticians Haine & Smith. They celebrated an epic 40 years in business - and never has there been more need for celebratory corporate cakes! Haine & Smith has 40 practices dotted in and around Wiltshire, and each practice got a cake with their name on it, starting with Regent Street, Swindon.
This week I'm embracing the rural-ness of where I live - Wiltshire - and I'm very excited to be involved in an Open Farm Sunday at the fab local Gable End Farm, in Grittenham, Chippenham (not far at all from Royal Wootton Bassett). So to begin the embracing, I got some eggs - laid by their lovely flock of free range hens.
So the Business Show Swindon 2015 at STEAM has just been and gone - and what a show! My aim was to bring my world of branded cakes into the ideal setting of a business event - displaying some of my lovely local corporate clients as typical examples of how you can represent your business brand with cupcakes.
Firstly, I'd like to just point out that this is surely the best placement ever of a sign starting with hunger...
Last Christmas I hadn't yet started running my own business and LittleMissCakeMaker.com was simply my hobby blog about baking. As part of this journey I discovered that cakes are definitely my area of expertise and pastry is not so much (hence the name). But of course, you can't celebrate Christmas without Mince Pies, right? Wrong! Mince Pie Cupcakes were born, out of the ashes of my pathetic pastry crumbs. Continue reading
I certainly did that last weekend - Chippenham Sci-Fi Day happened and it was more amazing than I'd even anticipated! The event had been in my diary for a long while, back when I'd only just set up my online shop and started my cake business full time towards the end of February. The year has flown by since then, I'm still in disbelief that it's November already!
I'm a proper sci-fi geek in general and have attended sci-fi conventions in the past as a fan/general public before but never as a trader. So of course, I set up my stand at Chippenham Sci-Fi and sold my cakey goods dressed as the Tardis. Continue reading
Dietary intolerances can seem a nightmare to work around, but a good friend (and customer) of mine recently planned a big celebration in honour of her well deserved graduation as a mature student at UWE Bristol. As she was bringing together friends and family from all walks of life it became clear that some dietary needs would need to be met.
Luckily for myself I can eat any kind of cake I please, but the thought of anyone being deprived of lovely freshly made cakes is far too miserable to bear. So, I embraced the challenge of a celebration in need of cake - catering for people that were both gluten-intolerant AND vegan. Continue reading
I've been meaning to invite a guest blogger to have a slot on here for a while now, and you couldn't get any better than Swindon's very own blogger Born Again Swindonian (AKA Angela Atkinson). With my new 'Bake at Home' kits I thought it only right to have a lovely customer tell you their experience of them, and give everyone an honest review, so that's what Angela has done - it's a bit delayed but here's her Easter Baking kit blog post for you all! Continue reading
Sometimes in England you have to bring your own sunshine to the party - and I find these Oreo Sunflowers seem to do just the trick! I made these cupcakes a few years ago after a friend found a similar image online and challenged me to make my own version. Continue reading
If you haven't seen Breaking Bad yet, this cupcake theme probably means nothing to you - but if you're a fan, just try and contain your excitement.
I've had the idea of Breaking Bad themed cupcakes since becoming engrossed in the show before it finished last year. When I get a theme in my head I love finding an excuse to bring it to life - so when I have a lightbulb moment and figure out the best way to bring the design to life whilst making it as tasty as possible, it's only a matter of time before I just go ahead and do it!
The moment I knew I had to do it was when I realised I had this on my shelf:
Edible neon sugar - in particular BLUE edible sugar crystals - well I just had to get cooking! Continue reading
Since I began my venture to bring the Little Miss Cake Maker shop to life, I've been looking, searching, trawling around for the best suppliers for various things. One of these things was of course sprinkles. Such a teeny weeny thing that makes a cupcake that little bit more awesome.
