I've been baking for several years now, and it was only recently that I moved out of my home kitchen to run my cake making business in a professional commercial space. When the big move was happening, I realised just how much stuff I had accumulated - and figured it would be useful to share with you what I consider to be my 'essential survival kit' for baking, and some of the helpful, affordable accessories that I use to produce my baked goods.
There are lots of gadgets and widgets out there which are marketed as 'essential' but with some creativity and natural ability, you don't NEED a lot of it. This guide is mainly taken from my 'home baking' experience, as I can tell you, working in a commercial kitchen is another world!
So if you're looking to start baking goodies at home or already a keen baker, this is the starting place for you - and just in time for Christmas so if you're missing anything, you could always ask Santa :) Continue reading
It's been almost a year since Little Miss Cake Maker became a full time business, so although I'm a little early with this, it seemed the right time to post as it's the start of a brand new year! What better time to review 2014 than now, right?
Such a rollercoaster of a year, and it's incredible how much you can forget while you're caught up in the action - so I'd encourage any business owner (or anyone for that matter) to take a little time out to look back at their past year and highlight all the good stuff you accomplished, no matter how small those things may be.

As part of this journey I discovered that cakes are definitely my area of expertise and pastry is not so much (hence the name). But of course, you can't celebrate Christmas without Mince Pies, right? Wrong! Mince Pie Cupcakes were born, out of the ashes of my pathetic pastry crumbs. Continue reading
This little blog of mine is officially 1 year old today, and how could I celebrate better than sharing cake with you all?!
Christmas is long gone and it's almost too late to start wishing people a Happy New Year by now, but we've still got box fulls of chocolates left over from Christmas. That's not to say that I don't love chocolates, because I do, and I've been devouring as many as possible every evening. However, we did get a LOT for Christmas to add to the stash we had already bought. So I've created the perfect way to get rid of them, in the tastiest, most enjoyable way possible. Continue reading
This week I was involved in some Epiphany celebrations. While our celebrations may not have been religiously led, we learnt a fair bit about it through the format of quiz. My contribution of course, was to provide cake! Luckily that was more successful than my quiz results. Continue reading
So you may have noticed that it's nearly blimin' Christmas! With that in mind, I made some mince pies. When I've perfected that recipe, I will be more than happy to share it with you, but it needs a bit of fine tuning. However, as I am Little Miss Cake Maker and I do love cake, I felt the need to make Mince Pie Cupcakes a thing. And they totally are. They're amazing! Continue reading
