Homemade Sprinkles

LMcakemaker Sprinkles

  • 225g icing sugar
  • 1 egg white, at room temperature
  • 3/4 teaspoon (or a few drops) pure vanilla extract (or any other flavour extract)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (a pinch is fine)
  • Assorted food colouring

Beat the egg white in a bowl and add the salt and flavour extract. Then sift the icing sugar to remove any lumps, and gradually add to the egg white mixture. Mix until it forms a gloopy stiff paste. Then split the mixture into small bowls for the number of colours you want to do, and add the colouring to each bowl.

Spoon the mixture into a piping bag fitted with a very small nozzle (number 2 is usually best) and pipe lines onto a baking sheet (or chopping board!) lined with baking paper. Keep piping until the board is full of the piped lines and put aside to harden overnight.

The next day, simply bash up the piped lines which have hardened to create sprinkles of any size! And it's totally okay to eat any that don't make it into your storage tub :)
