I certainly did that last weekend - Chippenham Sci-Fi Day happened and it was more amazing than I'd even anticipated! The event had been in my diary for a long while, back when I'd only just set up my online shop and started my cake business full time towards the end of February. The year has flown by since then, I'm still in disbelief that it's November already!
I'm a proper sci-fi geek in general and have attended sci-fi conventions in the past as a fan/general public before but never as a trader. So of course, I set up my stand at Chippenham Sci-Fi and sold my cakey goods dressed as the Tardis. Continue reading
Dietary intolerances can seem a nightmare to work around, but a good friend (and customer) of mine recently planned a big celebration in honour of her well deserved graduation as a mature student at UWE Bristol. As she was bringing together friends and family from all walks of life it became clear that some dietary needs would need to be met.
Luckily for myself I can eat any kind of cake I please, but the thought of anyone being deprived of lovely freshly made cakes is far too miserable to bear. So, I embraced the challenge of a celebration in need of cake - catering for people that were both gluten-intolerant AND vegan. Continue reading
Chocolate brownies are one of those amazing things in life. In my years of baking, for no explainable reason I realised I'd never actually baked chocolate brownies for myself. I've eaten them many times, and very much enjoyed them - but I suppose I've just never found an excuse to bake them. Luckily for me, now I bake for paying customers as well as friends and family, I had a perfect reason to make them - and of course before the customer got them, I had to trial a new recipe and taste them for myself! I've been meaning to invite a guest blogger to have a slot on here for a while now, and you couldn't get any better than Swindon's very own blogger Born Again Swindonian (AKA Angela Atkinson). With my new 'Bake at Home' kits I thought it only right to have a lovely customer tell you their experience of them, and give everyone an honest review, so that's what Angela has done - it's a bit delayed but here's her Easter Baking kit blog post for you all! Sometimes in England you have to bring your own sunshine to the party - and I find these Oreo Sunflowers seem to do just the trick! I made these cupcakes a few years ago after a friend found a similar image online and challenged me to make my own version. Continue reading
When I get awesome requests to make cakes that look like pizza, it completely reassures me that quitting my day job was the right thing to do. Along with the burger cakes, this has been my favourite cake to bring to life - I haven't had an excuse to do this before but did get close with my flapjack pizza... Continue reading
If you haven't seen Breaking Bad yet, this cupcake theme probably means nothing to you - but if you're a fan, just try and contain your excitement.
I've had the idea of Breaking Bad themed cupcakes since becoming engrossed in the show before it finished last year. When I get a theme in my head I love finding an excuse to bring it to life - so when I have a lightbulb moment and figure out the best way to bring the design to life whilst making it as tasty as possible, it's only a matter of time before I just go ahead and do it!
The moment I knew I had to do it was when I realised I had this on my shelf:
Edible neon sugar - in particular BLUE edible sugar crystals - well I just had to get cooking! Continue reading
Since I began my venture to bring the Little Miss Cake Maker shop to life, I've been looking, searching, trawling around for the best suppliers for various things. One of these things was of course sprinkles. Such a teeny weeny thing that makes a cupcake that little bit more awesome.
Little Miss Cake Maker is officially open for business!
My lovely home page will be transforming very soon into my new and exciting e-commerce website. The blog will still be up and running and easy to find, so if you're a follower or fan and aren't interested in buying stuff, don't despair! If anything, I'm hoping I'll now be able to update the blog more than ever, and share a wider range of creative experimental baking with you :)
Shoppity shop can be found at shop.littlemisscakemaker.com so take a look - it's been intentionally created to be as fun as possible to shop through, and there is SO much development still happening behind the scenes. Many more decorative themes to add to the range you see there - but please send me a message if you have any suggestions or would like something in particular that you don't see already! It's very exciting to be able to share my cakes and creative ideas with you all even more! Email firstname.lastname@example.org
So I'm hoping that by now you've come across Cakeopoly, as it's been a few weeks since I threw it out there to the public and ended up winning my first ever baking competition (Star Baker prize for the Faringdon Bake Off). While I've mentioned Cakeopoly in previous posts, I felt it deserved a special post of it's own, so I can show you the process I went through to make these super cute cupcakes! Continue reading
