It's been almost a year since Little Miss Cake Maker became a full time business, so although I'm a little early with this, it seemed the right time to post as it's the start of a brand new year! What better time to review 2014 than now, right?
Such a rollercoaster of a year, and it's incredible how much you can forget while you're caught up in the action - so I'd encourage any business owner (or anyone for that matter) to take a little time out to look back at their past year and highlight all the good stuff you accomplished, no matter how small those things may be.
So there was my first year of highlights (also available on YouTube here: http://youtu.be/hAIdopoFcIk), and I want to thank everyone that's been involved in any way in my business journey through 2014. I've named as many as I could squeeze into the video below, and I thought it'd be nice to briefly outline what these brilliant local businesses & services offer. If you're local to Swindon too, maybe some of these contacts will come in very handy!
Outset Swindon is a brilliant free service for Swindon residents, providing 1-to-1 advice and group workshop sessions on starting your own business. Without them, I probably wouldn't have a business!
Swindon Link is a local free magazine for the residents of Swindon, and provides lots of community based news. Roger and the team have been invaluable in helping me to raise awareness and spread the word about Little Miss Cake Maker, and when they rebranded last summer we unveiled the new logo on branded cupcakes!
Swindon Advertiser is the local newspaper for Swindon. It's always great to see your name in print, and the team there have been great in helping to raise exposure for me and my cake business.
Bowman House is an excellent business centre providing serviced offices, meeting rooms and business units. Based in Royal Wootton Bassett, I was over the moon to win a year's free office rental through the Swindon Advertiser's competition. I'd recommend anyone local to Swindon to check out the office space and meeting rooms here!
Business Scene is a business membership club, and was the first business networking event I ever attended. I'm now a full member and if you want to meet lots of brilliant business connections as well as benefit from heaps of businessey services, I would highly recommend checking out Business Scene!
The Enterprise Network
The Enterprise Network are a fantastic service, providing free support, advice & office space for small businesses in rural Wiltshire (including Swindon). They host free women's networking events every few months and you can usually find tasty cakes and brilliant people there.
Wiltshire Business Support Service
Wiltshire Business Support Services are linked with The Enterprise Network and are funded by Wiltshire Council and Wessex Chambers. They provide free support for small to medium businesses in Wiltshire, helping you to start up, thrive and grow your business.

Total Guide To are a great online portal for local areas - starting with Swindon and expanding to other towns & cities around the UK. It's a great directory that connects local people with businesses in their area.
Frankly Recruitment are an excellent recruitment & HR company based in Swindon. They celebrated their 5th Birthday last summer with Frankly green cakes!
Swindon Travel Choices
Swindon Travel Choices are a Swindon Council funded project, they promote different ways to travel around the borough including cycling, walking routes (more on that HERE) as well as bus & train services.
The Business Exchange
The Business Exchange is a lovely glossy magazine for the business community in Swindon & Wiltshire. They celebrated their first year in publication in September and it was an amazing honour to see my cupcakes on the front cover for that month's edition.
Egg-e-licious is one of the best places to eat in Swindon. Based in the Tented Market in Swindon town centre, and now also on Wood Street in Old Town. For the opening night of the new restaurant (E2), I made them a special branded cake to help celebrate the occasion. #SlowFoodFast
POTS is a software project developed for the healthcare servicing industry. They exhibited at a industry-specific trade event at the Birmingham NEC last year and to help attract attention they brought lots of corporate cupcakes featuring their brand and stand location printed onto them (fully edible). Software just got tasty!
The Pear Tree
The Pear Tree in Purton is an amazingly lovely hotel & restaurant. Last year they won another brilliant award for being Best Country Hotel in the Good Hotel Guide, and I had the pleasure of making them some branded corporate cupcakes.
Catherine Jay is a fabulous artisan jewellery company specialising in bridal jewellery and custom made jewellery for special occasions. To help launch the brand last year I made some jewellery themed cupcakes as well as branded cupcakes with the Catherine Jay logo as part of a launch event showcasing her very lovely work.
AA Editorial Services
AA Editorial Services is a Swindon based business offering proof-reading, copywriting & stylistic editing as well as blog writing services. Run by Swindon blogger extraordinaire Born Again Swindonian, if you ever need help with writing you know where to go!
Wessex Chamber of Commerce are affiliated with the Royal Wootton Bassett Chamber and are a great membership organisation connecting all kinds of businesses in a broad local area. There are plenty of networking events as well as a host of member benefits, and I am delighted to be working with them.
Alpha Response are a Gloucester based business specialising in mail and print services. I'll be writing a more detailed post about this soon, as I was thrilled to provide a large number of postable Christmas cupcakes for them featuring their new logo rebrand which were given to their customers in December.
