Never has such a basic set of ingredients tasted SO good.
I've never bought a flan dish. But after our recent team bake-off at craft HQ my lovely colleague (famous for her quiches) gave me one! One of my favourite desserts has always been egg custards, and I thought it would be a messy challenge, and the perfect use for my new flan tin.
There were a few varying recipes but I stuck with a good reliable cookbook, which didn't involve blind baking. That was totally fine by me, it cut down on time and effort and one less stage to go wrong! I ended up using skimmed milk after specifically buying whole milk for this recipe - so it's a lovely low fat version! I completely expected it to affect the consistency as most recipe books tend to state whole milk, but I've proven that there's nothing wrong with fat-free milk; it tastes amazing!
There's not much more to say about this recipe - I expected to have some dilemmas to share but the result was more than I had hoped for! Here's the recipe so you can give it a go too...
